American Girl- Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

"Well, she was an American girl raised on promises"

I want my stuff back.  My ex has my stuff, stuff that includes my American Girl Tom Petty shirt.  I want my Tom Petty shirt, and my toothbrush, and my PJ shorts, and my plate.  Yes, I left a plate over there.  And I want it back.  And guess what, I'm supposed to get this stuff from him soon and when I was thinking about it in my car, all of a sudden this song came on. IT WAS LIKE FATE.  I'm supposed to get my stuff back soon.  Plus, what is he going to do with a small tshirt and short shorts?

This is my all time favorite Tom Petty song.  It is also one of my favorite songs of all time.  I can't help but smile when I hear it.  My sister knew this was one of favorites and when she made a slide show for my graduation, she put this in the background.  So perfect.

Well she was an American girl
Raised on promises
She couldn't help thinking that there
Was a little more to life
Somewhere else
After all it was a great big world
With lots of places to run to
Yeah, an d if she had to die
Tryin' she had one little promise
She was gonna keep

Oh yeah, all right
Take it easy baby
Make it last all night
She was an American girl

It was kind of cold that night
She stood alone on her balcony
She could the cars roll by
Out on 441
Like waves crashing in the beach
And for one desperate moment there
He crept back in her memory
God it's so painful
Something that's so close
And still so far out of reach

Oh yeah, all right
Take it easy baby
Make it last all night
She was an American girl
