Summer Skin- Death Cab for Cutie

"And we peeled the freckles from our shoulders"

Today is my first official day of summer!!! So awesome.  I spent it watching my friends and sister graduate.  I don't want them to leave. I also ate way too much BBQ at the grad party.  I feel gross.

http://undertheravensmoon.typepad.com/.a/6a00e0098818b98833010535f800a0970b-popup

I don't usually like Death Cab.  I think they are kind of overrated and overplayed.  However, I do love this song.  Probably because it never hit mainstream.  It's really sad, but sweet.

Squeaky swings and tall grass
The longest shadows ever cast
The water's warm and children swim
And we frolicked about in our summer skin

I don't recall a single care
Just greenery and humid air
Then Labor day came and went
And we shed what was left of our summer skin

On the night you left I came over
And we peeled the freckles from our shoulders
Our brand new coats so flushed and pink
And I knew your heart I couldn't win
Cause the seasons change was a conduit
And we left our love in our summer skin

Movin' Out- Billy Joel

"You should never argue with a crazy mind"

I moved out of my dorm today! Yayayyayyayyayyayyayyay! Summer! I packed all day, watched some of the Royal wedding (Will is my very distant cousin) and packed some more.  I would also like to mention that I locked myself out of my room today for the first time all semester.  That takes talent right there......*sigh*.  But everything fit into my tiny grand am so I'm very happy about that!

http://www.redbubble.com/people/charuhas/art/4740341-antique-keys-what-they-unlock

Movin' Out by Billy Joel.  I love him.  He is so talented.

Anthony works in the grocery store
Savin' his pennies for someday
Mama Leone left a note on the door,
She said,
"Sonny, move out to the country."
Workin' too hard can give you
A heart attackackackackackack
You oughta know by now
Who needs a house out in Hackensack?
Is that all you get for your money?

And it seems such a waste of time
If that's what it's all about
Mama, If that's movin' up then I'm movin' out.
Mmm, I'm movin' out. Ooh-hoo, uh-huh, mmmm

Sergeant O'Leary is walkin' the beat
At night he becomes a bartender
He works at Mister Cacciatore's down
On Sullivan Street
Across from the medical center
Yeah and he's tradin' in his Chevy for a Cadillac
You oughta know by now
And if he can't drive
With a broken back
At least he can polish the fenders

And It seems such a waste of time
If that's what it's all about
Mama, If that's movin' up then I'm movin' out.
Mmm, I'm movin' out. Ooh-hoo, uh-huh, mmmm

You should never argue with a crazy mind
You oughta know by now
You can pay Uncle Sam with the overtime
Is that all you get for your money?

And if that's what you have in mind
yeah if that's what you're all about
Good luck movin' up 'cause I'm movin' out.
I'm movin' out

I'm movin' out...

The Kill- 30 Seconds to Mars

"Finally found myself fighting for a chance"

My friend and I got into a big fight and really I'm just over it.  I am so sick of this person acting like they know everything and that their opinion is the only opinion.  Always jumping down my throat and making fun of my small boobs or skinniness.  Jealous much?  Oh, and also believe that this person is maybe a tiny bit bipolar or has borderline personality disorder. They seriously change opinions/personalities/mood on the flip of a dime.  So done with it.  It is not worth my time, energy, or breath to deal with this.

http://www2.ljworld.com/marketplace/bonner-springs-basehor-ks/businesses/audio-reader/features/8568/

I didn't want to choose a song that says hate, because that's really mean.  Plus, karma's a bitch and I don't want that to come back full circle.  So, I did find one song that seems more appropriate, 30 Seconds to Mars' The Kill.  Again, I would like to state that I have liked this band all the way back before Kings and Queens came out.  Plus, Jared Leto is so cute.

What if I wanted to break
Laugh it all off in your face
What would you do? (Oh, oh)
What if I fell to the floor
Couldn't take all this anymore
What would you do, do, do?

Come break me down
Bury me, bury me
I am finished with you

What if I wanted to fight
Beg for the rest of my life
What would you do?
You say you wanted more
What are you waiting for?
I'm not running from you (from you)

Come break me down
Bury me, bury me
I am finished with you
Look in my eyes
You're killing me, killing me
All I wanted was you

I tried to be someone else
But nothing seemed to change
I know now, this is who I really am inside.
Finally found myself
Fighting for a chance.
I know now, this is who I really am.

Ah, ah
Oh, oh
Ah, ah

Come break me down
Bury me, bury me
I am finished with you, you, you.
Look in my eyes
You're killing me, killing me
All I wanted was you

Come break me down (bury me, bury me)
Break me down (bury me, bury me)
Break me down (bury me, bury me)

(You say you wanted more)
What if I wanted to break...?
(What are you waiting for?)
Bury me, bury me
(I'm not running from you)
What if I
What if I
What if I
What if I
Bury me, bury me

Come Sail Away- Styx

"Free to face the life that's ahead of me"

My summer vacation is literally days away- and that's exactly what I want this summer, a vacation.  The farthest I went last year was to the Omaha zoo and our state fair.  One day vacations......not all that exciting. So, my ideal vacation was to go on a cruise.....I know that's not going to happen.  But a girl can dream, can't she?  However, I still have been checking out cruise fares.  I think I may be able to convince my family to go : )

http://www.profilebrand.com/myspace2layouts/category/anchor/1

Well, obviously when you go on a cruise, you "sail" across the sea, hence the song of the day Come Sail Away by Styx.  I used to not be a big Styx faun, probably because my dad overplayed their albums when I was young.  But, over time, they have grown on me.  Come Sail Away is just a pretty awesome song.

I'm sailing away
Set an open course for the Virgin Sea
'Cause I've got to be free
Free to face the life that's ahead of me

On board, I'm the captain
So climb aboard
We'll search for tomorrow on every shore
And I'll try, oh Lord, I'll try to carry on

I look to the sea
Reflections in the waves spark my memory
Some happy, some sad
I think of childhood friends and the dreams we had

We lived happily forever
So the story goes
But somehow we missed out on the pot of gold
But we'll try best that we can to carry on

A gathering of Angels appeared above my head
They sang to me this song of hope and this is what they said

They said, "Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me lads
Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me baby
Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me"

I thought that they were Angels, but to my surprise
We climbed aboard their starship, we headed for the skies

Singing, come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me lads
Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me

Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me

Dory- Grizzly Bear

"I can't describe this problem"

I just bought Veckatimist by Grizzly Bear this weekend.....again I told you I have an addiction with buying things off of Amazon.  Anywho, it's amazing.  Almost a little reminiscent to 70s folk rock like America or like bands but still super modern.  A lot of songs simply envelop you.  Love that feeling.

http://www.thegp2project.org/

I like pretty much all of the songs, but Dory sticks out.  It sounds a little creepy but then almost has this weird cartoony vibe (no, it is not about Finding Nemo).  The vocal harmonies are absolutely amazing.....and creepy.

Wildly coherent in a watery deep
we’ll drop her down to the bottom
we’ll drop her down
like she’s nothing and the water is all

Oh the water is still in a wilder deep
We’ll swim around like two dories
We’ll swim around like two dories let loose in the bay

We’ll miss the eddy
Hold on make steady, go
There is no plenty.
Even keel already, go

I can’t be here all hours
Oh such a riot
I can’t discern this trouble
Oh what a riot I can’t be here all hours
Oh such a riot
I can’t describe…

I can’t be here all hours
Oh such a riot
I can’t describe this problem
Oh what a riot
I can’t be here all hours
Oh such a riot
I can’t describe this problem

Everything's Alright- Jesus Christ Superstar

"Let the world turn without you tonight"

Happy Easter y'all!  Don't worry, I'm not a hick.  But, on this holy day with the extra benefits of candy and easter egg hunts, I thought I should pay some respect to my religion.  I'm not super religious, well actually, I should say that I don't like to flaunt it.  It's pretty private.  Plus, the only super religious thing I do is Lent and pray at night.  Oh, and celebrate the holidays. For Lent though, I gave up saying the Lord's name in vain.  Let's just say that it was a huge struggle.

http://celine-frenzworld.blogspot.com/2008/11/entry-01.html

I've realized there aren't a lot of religous songs out there in the alternative/indie/lo-fi world that are actually postive toward Chrisitanity.  So, I thought that maybe I could get away with a rock opera.  Pretty inventive, eh?  Everything's Alright is from Jesus Christ Superstar and is obviously about Jesus and all his wonderfullness.  I was a theater nerd in high school, so choosing a musical for my song of the day seems fitting.  Anywho, I like the minor major changes and note accidentals all throughout the song.  Groovy.

Try not to get worried, try not to turn on to
Problems that upset you, oh.
Don't you know
Everything's alright, yes, everything's fine.
And we want you to sleep well tonight.
Let the world turn without you tonight.
If we try, we'll get by, so forget all about us tonight

Everything's alright, yes, everything's alright, yes.
Sleep and I shall soothe you, calm you, and anoint you.
Myrrh for your hot forehead, oh.
Then you'll feel
Everything's alright, yes, everything's fine.
And it's cool, and the ointment's sweet
For the fire in your head and feet.
Close your eyes, close your eyes
And relax, think of nothing tonight.

Everything's alright, yes, everything's alright, yes.

Woman your fine ointment, brand new and expensive
Should have been saved for the poor.
Why has it been wasted? We could have raised maybe
Three hundred silver pieces or more.
People who are hungry, people who are starving
They matter more than your feet and hair!

Try not to get worried, try not to turn on to
Problems that upset you, oh.
Don't you know

Everything's alright, yes, everything's alright, yes.

Surely you're not saying we have the resources
To save the poor from their lot?
There will be poor always, pathetically struggling.
Look at the good things you've got.
Think while you still have me!
Move while you still see me!
You'll be lost, and you'll be sorry when I'm gone.

Sleep and I shall soothe you, calm you and anoint you.
Myrrh for your hot forehead/
Then you'll feel
Everything's alright, yes, everything's fine.
And it's cool and the ointment's sweet
For the fire in your head and feet.
Close your eyes, close your eyes, and relax
Think of nothing tonight

Everything's alright, yes, everything's alright, yes.

Close your eyes, close your eyes, and relax

Horchata- Vampire Weekend

"Here comes a feeling you thought you'd forgotten"

I know this is a day late. I'm sorry.  I was super busy yesterday (packing, shopping, seeing scream 4-awesome btw).  But I had a very successful shopping trip....used tons of gift cards and bday money....and bought Vampire Weekend's Contra.  They are my favorite band.  I. Love. Them.  Their music makes me want to go to New England.  Just sounds so northeastern hampton new york boston mash up if that makes any sense.  I also love how they use a wide variety of instruments in their music (especially strings).  Plus, the percussion is also really awesome.  There will probably be quite a few posts about this band in the future.

http://www.friendlyrentals.com/blog/en/barcelona/suggestions/refreshingoptionsbarcelona-posts-1-4_478.htm

Besides the obvious Cousins and Giving Up the Gun, one of my favorites on the album is Horchata.  It's actually my ringtone.  I'm not really quite sure what Horchata is.  I heard that it could be like mexican hot chocolate.  I have no idea, I took french in high school. But, anywho, I like the chorus with all the drums.  Plus, Ezra's voice is really cool with all that falsetto and trills.  Love it.

In December drinking horchata
I'd look psychotic in a balaclava
Winter's cold, it's too much to handle
Pincher crabs that pinch at your sandals.

Whoaaaaa ooooh

In December drinking horchata
Look down your glasses at that aranciata
With lips and teeth to ask how my day went
Boots and fists to pound on the pavement
Here comes a feeling you thought you'd forgotten
Chairs to sit and sidewalks to walk on

Whoaaaaaa ooooh

You'd remember drinkin horchata
You'd still enjoy it with your foot on masada

Winter's cold, it's too much to handle
Pincher crabs that pinch at your sandals
Here comes a feeling you thought you'd forgotten
Chairs to sit and sidewalks to walk on
Ooh you had it but oh no you lost it
Lookin back you shouldn't have fought it

In December, drinkin horchata
I'd look psychotic in a balaclava
Winter's cold, it's too much to handle
Pincher crabs that pinch at your sandals
Years go by and hearts start to harden
Those palms and firs that grew in your garden
Are falling down and nearing the rose beds
The roots are shooting up through the tool shed
Those lips and teeth that asked how my day went
Are shouting up through cracks in the pavement

Here comes a feeling you thought you'd forgotten
Chairs to sit and sidewalks to walk on
Oh you had it but oh no you lost it
You understood so you shouldn't have fought it

Here comes a feeling you thought you'd forgotten
Chairs to sit and sidewalks to walk on
Here comes a feeling you thought you'd forgotten
Chairs to sit and sidewalks to walk on

Moneygrabber- Fitz and the Tantrums

"One is for the money, two is for the greed"

I feel gipped (is that how you spell that?).  I bought fandango movie tickets from groupon to find out that none of my movie theaters accept them.  Oh awesome.  I feel betrayed, Groupon.  I don't have a job right now, so money is tight.  I did not need to waste $8.  Yeah, that's how in trouble I am, making a huge deal out of $8.  Anywho, I am now on a search to find a movie theater that will accept my tickets......and job searching.

http://blackearthfilmfest.blogspot.com/
Moneygrabber.  Yeah, that's you, Fandango/Groupon.  I truly jam out to this song.  So soulful.  But I would also like to say that I have known this song since last fall......way before VH1 listed them as an artist "you oughta know."  I am all for indie bands getting recognized but I am not ok with the mainstream overplaying them.  They did it to Kings of Leon, then Mumford and Sons, soon to be Arcade Fire, and sadly now Fitz and the Tantrums.  I wish it wasn't so.

Don't come back anytime I've already had your kind
This is your pay back, money grabber

Don't come back anytime, you've already run me dry
This is your pay back, money grabber

Teardrops fade
Then I saw, blue hands in the pocket
'Cause you were always made to want it all
But now you got to make it on your own
This ain't your home
So I'm showing you the door
Wave goodbye now, it's time for you to go

Don't comeback anytime, I've already had your kind
This is you pay back, money grabber

Don't come back anytime, you've already robbed me blind
This is your pay back, money grabber

Blue rhinestone glass
All I see
You talking double
Like the time you set fire to me
'Cause I'm in trouble
Here's my advice
I don't think twice for the price of a cheap time whore

Don't comeback anytime, I've already had your kind
This is you pay back, money grabber

Don't come back anytime, you've already robbed me blind
this is your pay back, money grabber

One. Two. Three.
One is for the money
Two is for the greed
And three times that I told you you're the one
I just don't need

Don't comeback anytime, I've already had your kind
This is you pay back, money grabber

Don't come back anytime, you've already robbed me blind
This is your pay back, money grabber

Money grabber
Money grabber
Don't come back anytime, I've already had your kind

If I Had a Million Dollars- Barenaked Ladies

"I'd buy you an exotic pet (like a llama or an emu)"

I'm really running low in the money department.  I guess that's what happens when you haven't had a job for almost a year.  Also, I don't think it helps that I lost a lot of weight and now feel like I need to buy a completely new wardrobe.  Sadly that costs money.  Amazon.com cheap albums don't help either.  That costs money too.  Can anyone say job search?

http://schoolloans.org/blog/

What would I do with a million dollars?......a lot of stuff.  Maybe not exactly everything stated in this song, If I Had a Million Dollars, but similiar perhaps.  I used to not like this song, but over the years, it has grown on me.  Super quirky.  I still love this band but really wish that all of the members were still included.

If I had a $1,000,000 (If I had a $1,000,000)
I'd but you a house ( I would buy you a house)
If I had a $1,000,000 (If I had a $1,000,000)
I'd buy you furniture for your house ( maybe a nice chesterfield or an ottoman)
If I had a $1,000,000 (If I had a $1,000,000)
I'd but you a K-car ( a nice reliant automobile)
If I had a $1,000,000, $I'd buy you love

If I had a $1,000,000
I'd build a treefort in our yard
If I had a $1,000,000
You could help it wouldn't be that hard
If I had a $1,000,000
Maybe we could put a refrigerator in there
Wouldn't that be fabulous!

If I had a $1,000,000 (If I had a $1,000,000)
I but you a fur coat( but not a real fur coat that's cruel)
If I had a $1,000,000 (If I had a $1,000,000)
I'd buy you an exotic pet(like a llama or an emu)
If I had a $1,000,000 (If I had a $1,000,000)
I'd buy you John Merick's remains (All them crazy elephant bones)
If I had a $1,000,000 I'd buy your love

If I had a $1,000,000
We wouldn't have to walk to the store
If I had a $1,000,000
We'd take a limousine cause it costs more
If I had a $1,000,000 We wouldnt have to eat Kraft dinner

If I had a $1,000,000 (If I had a $1,000,000)
I'd but you a green dress ( but not a real green dress that's cruel)
If I had a $1,000,000 (If I had a $1,000,000)
I'd but you some art ( A Picasso or a Garfunkel)
If I had a $1,000,000 (If I had a $1,000,000)
I'd buy you a monkey (haven't you always wanted a monkey?)
If I had a $1,000,000 If I had a $1,000,000 If I had a $1,000,000
If I had a $1,000,000 I'd be rich!

Because I Got High- Afroman

"Now I'm a paraplegic and I know why"

If you don't have a calendar or any druggie friends, today is 4-20.  I don't think I need to explain it anymore.  Now, don't get me wrong, I have never done drugs.  The most I have smoked is a cigar. But, I must also say that I have no problem with people smoking weed.  It's their life.  Not my job to judge them.

http://www.ecigarettesnational.com/pages/The-Benefits.html

So, Because I Got High is like one of the anthems for 4-20.  Pretty funny catchy rap.  Good ol' 90s rap.  Warning: some of the lyrics are explicit. Don't freak out.

It's like i dont care about nothing man...
Roll another joint...
ooohh
la da da da la da da la la da da

I was gonna clean my room until I got high
I was gonna get up and find the broom but then I got high
My room is still messed up and I know why(why man)

Because I got high
Because I got high
Because I got high

I was gonna go to class before I got high
I could'a cheated and I could'a passed but I got high(uh uh la la da da)
I'm takin it next semester and I know why(why man) (hey hey)

Because I got high
Because I got high
Because I got high

(go to the next one, go to the next one, go to the next one)
I was gonna go to work but then I got high(ohh, ohh)
I just got a new promotion but I got high(la da da da da)
Now I'm selling dope and I know why(why man)

Because I got high
Because I got high
Because I got high

I was gonna go to court before I got high
I was gonna pay my child support but then I got high(no you wasn't)
They took my whole paycheck and I know why(why man)(yeah eh eh)

Because I got high
Because I got high
Because I got high

I wasn't gonna run from the cops but I was high(uh, i'm serious man)
I was gonna pull right over and stop but I was high(uh)
Now I'm a paraplegic( ha ha ha) and I know why(why man)

Because I got high
Because I got high
Because I got high
I was gonna pay my car and note until I got high (say what say what?)
I wasn't gonna gamble on the boat but then I got high (uh uh)
Now the tow truck is pullin away and I know why (why man)

Because I got high
Because I got high
Because I got high

I was gonna make love to you but then I got high (ooh) (im serious)
I was gonna eat your pussy too(ohhh) but then I got high
Now i'm jackin' off (ahh) and I know why(trying to shut off ha ha ha)

Because I got high
Because I got high
Because I got high

I messed up my entire life because I got high (go go go)
I lost my kids and wife because I got high say (what say what say what?)
Now I'm sleepin on the side walk and I know why (why man)

Ima stop singing this song because I'm high(raise the ceiling... baby)
I'm singing this whole thing wrong because I'm high(bring it back)
And if I don't sell one copy, I'll know why(why man?) (yeah eh eh)

Here Comes the Rain Again- Eurythmics

"I want to talk like lovers do"

It's raining again.  I usually love the rain but today is that weird misting pattern that isn't enough to use an umbrella so you just have to endure it.  It's also like 40 degrees today.  I swear, my town is like the black hole of weather.  40 degrees, misting and 30 mph wind today, last week it was 80 degrees and sunny.  No wonder I get the winter blues when I'm in school.  Oh, btw, Blake Mycoskie's lecture was amazing last night!
http://mallorcadiary.blogspot.com/

I chose Here Comes the Rain Again by the Eurythmics today.  I love this song.  It's one of my favorite Eurythmics song.  It's nice to find artists who use orchestration (I play the violin) in their songs.  Plus, Annie Lennox' voice is so awesome.  So deep, almost androgynous.

Here comes the rain again
Falling on my head like a memory
Falling on my head like a new emotion
I want to walk in the open wind
I want to talk like lovers do
I want to dive into your ocean
Is it raining with you

So baby talk to me
Like lovers do
Walk with me
Like lovers do
Talk to me
Like lovers do

Here comes the rain again
Raining in my head like a tragedy
Tearing me apart like a new emotion
Oooooh
I want to breathe in the open wind
I want to kiss like lovers do
I want to dive into your ocean
Is it raining with you

So baby talk to me
Like lovers do
Walk with me
Like lovers do
Talk to me
Like lovers do

So baby talk to me
Like lovers do

Here comes the rain again
Falling on my head like a memory
Falling on my head like a new emotion
(Here is comes again, here it comes again)
I want to walk in the open wind
I want to talk like lovers do
I want dive into your ocean
Is it raining with you

New Shoes- Paolo Nutini

"And I thought hello new shoes, bye bye them blues"

Super excited! I'm going to see Blake Mycoskie speak tonight.  He's the founder of TOMS shoes.  I actually don't have a pair (they are so dang expensive) but if I had a job and some funds, I would definitely buy a pair.  I used to think they were ugly but, after a while, their casualness grew on me.  I'm not qutie sure if casualness is a word, but I'm going with it.

http://anewsheadline.com/toms-shoes-one-day-without-shoes-67/

In honor of TOMS, today's song is New Shoes by Paolo Nutini.  Love this song.  So catchy.  Plus, I may love it more just because it is about shoes (I'm a shoeaholic, worked at a shoe store, the first step is admitting you have a problem).  Haven't heard much from Paolo lately.  Hope he is still performing!

Woke up cold one Tuesday,
I'm looking tired and feeling quite sick,
I felt like there was something missing in my day to day life,
So I quickly opened the wardrobe,
Pulled out some jeans and a T-Shirt that seemed clean,
Topped it off with a pair of old shoes,
That were ripped around the seams,
And I thought these shoes just don't suit me.

Hey, I put some new shoes on,
And suddenly everything is right,
I said, hey, I put some new shoes on and everybody's smiling,
It's so inviting,
Oh, short on money,
But long on time,
Slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine,
And I'm running late,
And I don't need an excuse,
'cause I'm wearing my brand new shoes.

Woke up late one Thursday,
And I'm seeing stars as I'm rubbing my eyes,
And I felt like there were two days missing,
As I focused on the time,
And I made my way to the kitchen,
But I had to stop from the shock of what I found,
A room full of all off my friends dancing round and round,
And I thought hello new shoes,
Bye bye them blues.

Hey, I put some new shoes on,
And suddenly everything is right,
I said, hey, I put some new shoes on and everybody's smiling,
It's so inviting,
Oh, short on money,
But long on time,
Slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine,
And I'm running late,
And I don't need an excuse,
'cause I'm wearing my brand new shoes.

Take me wandering through these streets,
Where bright lights and angels meet,
Stone to stone they take me on,
I'm walking to the break of dawn.
I'm walking to the break of dawn.

Hey, I put some new shoes on,
And suddenly everything is right,
I said, hey, I put some new shoes on and everybody's smiling,
It's so inviting,
Oh, short on money,
But long on time,
Slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine,
And I'm running late,
And I don't need an excuse,
'cause I'm wearing my brand new shoes.

Hey, I put some new shoes on,
And suddenly everything is right,
I said, hey, I put some new shoes on and everybody's smiling,
It's so inviting,
Oh, short on money,
But long on time,
Slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine,
And I'm running late,
And I don't need an excuse,
'cause I'm wearing my brand new shoes.

Take me wandering through these streets

Bodyaches- Sugar and Gold

"You seemed so close to me but then so far when I held your hand"

My friends and I played Frisbee Golf yesterday on campus.  Turns out I suck at it just as much as I do regular golf.  Dang.  I really thought the fact that it was frisbee (not a super sport or anything) I just may be mediocre at it.  Boy, was I wrong.  But, point being, I must have challenged my muscles a little bit because my arm is sore, or maybe I just exerted too much power and did the whole thing wrong.  Oh well.  I guess it's worth another try.

http://www.totallyultimate.com/blog/history-of-ultimate-frisbee/
The song that I chose today is quite appropriate I think.  Bodyaches by Sugar and Gold.  Well, actually, I think the lyrics are about wanting sex from your ex, BUT the title is appropriate, kind of.  Different type of bodyache.  The song sounds like it came right out of 1983 at a Hall and Oats concert.  It is so strangely awesome.  Kind of sounds like a bad 80s cover band, but still really cool at the same time.  I wasn't around in the 80s, so this is practically the only way I can experience that bodacious decade.  Gotta love the quirkiness!

I wish that we could wake up in the same room, time past away, away
My blood flows warm and I know that it's too soon, no, not today, not today
And I'm hanging on to threads of clothes and things you left here the last time you stayed, you stayed
And t's true that it it will never be the same girl but I don't care 'cuz I'm just not that way

I can remember the taste of your sweat
I can remember the nights that we spent
I can still hear all the sounds that you make
I don't know how much more I can take

'Cause I got the body aches, soul shakes, hit me but go easy on me, baby
Hit me with a soft clap, wake me from this long nap, go easy on me, baby
Body aches, soul shakes, hit me but go easy on me, baby
Hit me with a soft clap, wake me from this long nap, go easy on me, baby

Of all the things you shared there's only one thing I can't understand, understand
You seemed so close to me but then so far when I held your hand, I held your hand
And I wake up thinking all about the good times day after day, after day
And it's true that it will never be the same girl but I don't care 'cause I'm just not that way

Body aches, soul shakes, hit me but go easy on me, baby
Hit me with a soft clap, wake me from this long nap, go easy on me, baby
Body aches, soul shakes, hit me but go easy on me, baby
Hit me with a soft clap, wake me from this long nap, go easy on me, baby

I can remember the taste of your sweat
I can remember the nights that we spent
I can still hear all the sounds that you make
I don't know how much more I can take
Body aches

We're Going to Be Friends- The White Stripes

"When I wake tomorrow I'll bet that you and I will walk together again"

My friends are in town all weekend!  They came for the concert last night (which was awesome). Love them to death.  I have been best friends with them since freshman year of high school, so that's like, what, 5 years?  Pretty awesome.  They are all 2 years older than me and are all graduating this year so I am a little scared of what the future holds, but I have some faith that we will always be the best of friends.

I tried to find a good friend song, but I realized there aren't many out there.  Kinda disappointing.  But We're Going to be Friends by the White Stripes is a pretty good friendship song.  It talks about growing up with your best friends and still continuing your frienship to the future, kind of just like me and my friends :)

Fall is here,hear the yell
back to school,ring the bell
brand new shoes,walking blues
climb the fence,books and pens
I can tell that we're going to be friends

Walk with me,Suzy Lee
through the park and by the tree
we will rest upon the ground
and look at all the bugs we found
then safely walk to school
without a sound

Well here we are,no one else
we walked to school all by ourselves
there's dirt on our uniforms
from chasing all the ants and worms
we clean up and now its time to learn

Numbers,letters,learn to spell
nouns,and books,and show and tell
at playtime we will throw the ball
back to class,through the hall
teacher marks our height
against the wall

And we don't notice any time pass
we don't notice anything
we sit side by side in every class
teacher thinks that I sound funny
but she likes the way you sing

Tonight I'll dream while I'm in bed
when silly thoughts go through my head
about the bugs and alphbet
and when I wake tommorow I'll bet
that you and I will walk together again
cause I can tell that we're going to be friends

Name- Goo Goo Dolls

"Scars are souvenirs you never lose"

I am so excited because I am seeing the Goo Goo Dolls tonight! I love them. And, yes, I understand that their music isn't exactly super artsy or unique (they are super mainstream) BUT I have always loved them.  They are just a good ol' adult alternative band that I have been listening to since I was a kid.  I have actually seen them before (along with uncle kracker and sugar ray- preteens' dream!) and they are great live.  They don't use all that lame autotune or lip synch crap.  They were my favorite actual band (backstreet boys were up there, but they are NOT a band) growing up, so, again, I am super excited.

http://stuck-in-a-book.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

My all time fav song from them is Name.  It was their first hit and, I don't know, it just seems so natural compared to their other songs, like they weren't trying to keep up an image or create a perfect, clean sound. Still love the song, it still gets to me.

And even though the moment passed me by
I still can't turn away
Cause all the dreams you never thought you'd lose
Got tossed along the way
And letters that you never meant to send
Get lost or thrown away

And now we're grown up orphans
That never knew their names
We don't belong to no one
That's a shame
But if you could hide beside me
Maybe for a while
And I won't tell no one your name

And I won't tell em your name

Scars are souvenirs you never lose
The past is never far
Did you lose yourself somewhere out there
Did you get to be a star
And don't it make you sad to know that life
Is more than who we are

You grew up way too fast
And now there's nothing to believe
And reruns all become our history
A tired song keeps playing on a tired radio
And I won't tell no one your name
And I won't tell em your name

I think about you all the time
But I don't need the same
It's lonely where you are come back down
And I won't tell em your name

The Trapeze Swinger- Iron & Wine

"But please remember me, fondly."

It's a nice cloudy day today.  I'm not quite sure when it's suppose to rain today, but I certainly love the rain.  I have a ton of papers to write today and when it's a cloudy day (I actually love these "dreary" days) the first music that comes to mind is Jeff Buckley or Iron & Wine.  Since I already chose a Jeff Buckley song, I think I should go with the alternative, Iron & Wine.  My friend introduced me to them (he is a huge fan) and I absolutely fell in love with Sam Beam's nonchalant voice and soothing acoustic guitar.  I think it fits a rainy day because whatever technique he uses to record his music always seems to sound a bit grainy or vintage, almost like it may have been recorded with the sound equivalent of white noise (rain perhaps).  Whatever, it may be, I love all of Beam's songs.

This is The Trapeze Swinger.  It kind of holds a special place in my heart.  Just, you know, exes and stuff.  The lyrics are so poetic and it's so calming for this cloudy (hopefully rainy, later) day.  I could be wrong, but, I believe it is about an ex and the progression of being forgotten.

Please remember me, happily
By the rosebush laughing
With bruises on my chin, the time when
We counted every black car passing

Your house beneath the hill and up until
Someone caught us in the kitchen
With maps, a mountain range, a piggy bank
A vision too removed to mention

But please remember me, fondly
I heard from someone you're still pretty
And then they went on to say that the Pearly Gates
Had some eloquent graffiti

Like 'We'll meet again' and 'Fuck the man'
And 'Tell my mother not to worry'
And angels with their great handshakes
But always done in such a hurry

And please remember me, at Halloween
Making fools of all the neighbors
Our faces painted white, by midnight
We'd forgotten one another

And when the morning came I was ashamed
Only now it seems so silly
That season left the world and then returned
And now you're lit up by the city

So please remember me, mistakenly
In the window of the tallest tower
Call, then pass us by but much too high
To see the empty road at happy hour

Gleam and resonate just like the gates
Around the Holy Kingdom
With words like, 'Lost and found' and 'Don't look down'
And 'Someone save temptation'

And please remember me as in the dream
We had as rug burned babies
Among the fallen trees and fast asleep
Beside the lions and the ladies

That called you what you like and even might
Give a gift for your behavior
A fleeting chance to see a trapeze
Swinger high as any savior

But please remember me, my misery
And how it lost me all I wanted
Those dogs that love the rain and chasing trains
The colored birds above their running

In circles round the well and where it spells
On the wall behind St. Peter
So bright on cinder gray in spray paint
'Who the hell can see forever?'

And please remember me, seldomly
In the car behind the carnival
My hand between your knees, you turn from me
And said the trapeze act was wonderful

But never meant to last, the clowns that passed
Saw me just come up with anger
When it filled with circus dogs, the parking lot
Had an element of danger

So please remember me, finally
And all my uphill clawing
My dear, but if I make the Pearly Gates
I'll do my best to make a drawing

Of God and Lucifer, a boy and girl
An angel kissin' on a sinner
A monkey and a man, a marching band
All around the frightened trapeze swinger

Nah nah nah
Nah nah nah
Nah nah nah

Blackbird's Song- Augustine

""It's time for me to move along"

I am absolutely in love with the show My Life as Liz.  Especially now that cute hipster Louis is Liz's new love interest.  HE IS SO CUTE.  I need to stop gushing.  But, I brought this up because last night there was an amazing episode of the show and it made me fall in love with Louis even more.  Well, the cute kid is in a band called Augustine.......so dreamy.  And, to make things even better, I just may be able to see his band perform in September in my roomie's hometown.  SO PSYCHED

This song was featured on My Life as Liz and it is absolutely gorgeous.  So so so pretty.  Blackbird's Song.

Up before the sun
Whiskey on my breath
Sing myself a song
Figure out the rest
Or another song
You were right, we were wrong

Oh, Blackbird sing
Songs that you never sing to me
Ooooh

All those words you say
They pull at my heart
If you'd say them today
I'd pull yours apart
Set fire to the past
Watch it all turn to ash

Oh, Blackbird sing
Songs that you never sing to me
Oooo

Somewhere far from here
You're driving home
Blackbird singing songs you never know
But I do

Oh, Blackbird sing
Songs that you never sing to me
Oooo

Somewhere far from here
You're driving home
Blackbird singing
Oh, Blackbird singing songs you never know
But I do
Blackbird's song
It's time for me to move along
Blackbird's song
It's time for me to move along

Nothing to Worry About- Peter Bjorn and John

"If you have problems, why don't you go solve them?"

I have a C in chemistry.  Not my proudest moment.  I have a 3.8 GPA so a C really hurts.  But, I just need to remind myself that I am in college and not all things will come easy to me.  Everyone gets a C once in a while  Plus, I have A's in all of my other classes, so I'm staying postive.

This song sums up that I shouldn't worry about anything.  Somewhat appropriate.  Super catchy, love the little kids singing in the back.  It's definitely my favorite Peter Bjorn and John song.  The video is pretty schnazzy also. Here's Nothing to Worry About

Do this thing, this type of thing
Put a little money in this type of thing
I got nothing to worry about
I got nothing to worry about

Negative
Why always so negative?
If you have problems,
Why don't you go solve them?
Beat me up
At least you won't be out of touch
If you're such a poet,
use your tongue and show it

do this thing, this type of thing
put a little money in this type of thing
i got nothing to worry about
i got nothing to worry about

Trouble seems,
trouble seems to follow you
It's always 'round you
like something you subscribe to
Be prepared
There must be something in you
Turning boys to men
and then back again

Do this thing, this type of thing
Put a little money in this type of thing
I got nothing to worry about
I got nothing to worry about

Grace- Jeff Buckley

"So easy to know and forget with this kiss"

To start things off, I think my first post should be a song from my favorite artist: the late Jeff Buckley.  If you know anything about me, you will know that I am absolutely obssesed with JBuck.  Anytime I am feeling down, I just listen to one the many CDs I have of his and relax totally.  I find new rhythms and cadences and all these beautiful elements to his songs every time I listen to them.  It never gets old.  I'm sad that I wasn't old enough to realize his talent or to even know of him when he was still alive, such a shame.  I think he was the most talented and intellectually complex musician there has ever been.  But that's just my opinion.  Just listen for yourself, and you'll understand.

This is Grace, my fav.  It is about how when you are in love with someone, everything else doesn't even matter, including death.  It's a strange, hauntingly beautiful, love song, perhaps even a ballad.  The grace of being in love.

There's the moon asking to stay
Long enough for the clouds to fly me away
Though it's my time coming, I'm not afraid, afraid to die
My fading voice sings of love,
But she cries to the clicking of time,
Of time

Wait in the fire...

And she weeps on my arm
Walking to the bright lights in sorrow
Oh drink a bit of wine we both might go tomorrow,oh my love
And the rain is falling and I believe
My time has come
It reminds me of the pain I might leave
Leave behind

Wait in the fire...

It reminds me of the pain I might leave
leave behind...

And I feel them drown my name
So easy to know and forget with this kiss
But I'm not afraid to go but it goes so slow

Wait in the fire...
