Sun Hands- Local Natives

"My hands are blessed to have touched the sun"

I downloaded Local Natives' Gorilla Manor album the other day and it is by far one the best albums I have ever heard.  It is up there with Jeff Buckley's Grace.  That's pretty good in my book.  They are so amazing.  I want to see them live so bad now! Oh, btw, you may be wondering why I don't have a song or post for saturday (or you probably don't care enough to notice.) Funny thing, I switched to the "new blogger template" thingy and I apparently didn't click post when I was done writing it.  My bad.

Sun hands is my absolute favorite on this album.  Airplanes is second.  But, I actually discovered Sun Hands almost 2 years ago.  It was a free download from emusic and I have loved it ever since.  AND NOW I HAVE THE ALBUM!  I really love the catchy tunes, the emotion, the lead singer's voice, the harmonies, and the great percussion and orchestrations on this album.  I am absolutely in love.

I climbed to the top of a hill
but I had just missed the sun
and although the descending arc was gone
left behind were the traces that always follow along

The most beautiful colors chase the sun
They wrap her trail in a taunting gesture
that seems to sing out loud
"This is what you're missing"
I'll endure the night
for the promise of light
I'll endure the night
for the promise of light

I want to lift my hands towards the sun
Show me warmth
Baby, won't you show me warmth again?
And when I can feel with my sun hands
I'll promise not to lose her again
and even if the morning never comes
my hands are blessed to have touched the sun, the sun
I'll endure the night
for the promise of light
I'll endure the night
for the promise of

And when I can feel with my sun hands
I promise not to lose her again
And when I can feel with my sun hands
I promise not to lose her again
And when I can feel with my sun hands
I promise not to lose her again
And when I can feel with my sun hands
I promise not to lose her again

I'll endure the night
for the promise of light
I'll endure the night
for the promise of

  1. A bit of an off-topic question. Don't you like instrumentals?

  2. Do you mean the instrumental elements in songs or songs that are strictly instrumental?

  3. In a way, both. Songs that heavily rely on instrumentals or are strictly instrumentals.

  4. I must say, I am a sucker for a great percussion line/beat or anything that features strings. I also usually remember guitar solos better than lyrics. SO yes I do love strong instrumentals in a song. They really create the backdrop to a song and can usually make or break the song, in my opinion. I'm not usually too fond of strincly instrumental songs, unless they are absolutely gorgeous or unique, like, for instance, nick drake's introduction on the Bryter layter album. I also can't stand instrumental songs that last over 5 mins, like the ones from the 70s. But, you never know, something may really blow me away and I will adore it.

  5. Okay, what about this type of music? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UlujyBwU5I)

A blog post request, if I may. Make a list of instrumentals that you like and/or listen to.

  6. Having a background in orchestra, I do appreciate orchestral pieces, or strictly instrumentals. However, I can't say that I would choose to listen to this outside of a live concert. It is very pretty though. As for instrumentals I listen to, I love the Classical, Romantic and some 20th century music eras with an emphasis on Tchaikovsky, Schubert, Chopin, and my favorite Debussy. I love big band also and 40s-50s jazz. As for instruments, I obviously love the violin, but also the cello, piano, and drums. I hoped this answered your question.
